FWG: This Week's Sign of the Apocalypse

Well. I thought this week’s sign of the apocalypse was me on a snowboard for the first time in 5 years. However, in an awesome change of events some new (and less embarrassing) material presented itself. This week Obama’s stance on the failing economy got less press than his stance on (and plans for changing) the current BCS system.

Rest easy Mom’s and Dad’s. of America Who cares about that failing 401k? Corporate corruption? Irresponsible lending practices? Nonsense! Can’t make the mortgage payment? No worries!--a play off system is on its way. You already know my feelings on this whole play-off nonsense. And I understand sports as a form of escape, but how ass backwards are we when Utah’s attorney general is filing anti trust papers against the BCS instead of, oh I don’t know, prosecuting criminals?

The nation already feels bad for you Utah. So relax. And as far as Obama supporting the playoff system? I want to hear how he plans to keep gas low and John and Jane Doe from being put out on the street by Citizens Bank before I hear how he wants to take bowl games away. You know what else? I’ve seen him play pick up basketball. Rules on football should not be made by those who couldn’t last 5 minutes on the field.
You can file this under the same real issue-distracting-bullshit as congress interfering in Major League Baseball and their so called "concern" with performance enhancing drugs. That is all.

College Football needs it some Playoffs

When Alabama played Florida in the SEC title game they lost, 31-20. Before that loss they were an undefeated powerhouse and surely the favorite to play in the national title game. That one win gave Florida the boost they needed to jump to #2 in the rankings and into the title game. But will it do the same to Utah's ranking? Will the AP give the undefeated Utes their share of the title?
Right now Utah is 13-0. They are the only undefeated team in Division 1 football. I don't know why they wouldn't deserve that consideration. Somebody has to explain to me why they wouldn't. There is only one undefeated team in the United States of America right now in Division I football, and it's these guys right here.
When you have to ask yourself, "Should the only undefeated team in college football be co-champions?" you should instead be asking yourself, "Why no playoff?" There has been a one full month since Florida beat Alabama, one full month since Texas watched the team they beat 45-35 Trump Missouri in the Big 12 title game. Just think of this...if they cut out the conference championship we could have 5 weeks of heated college football playoffs....and still finish at the same time! You can't tell me that the money is a problem. Basketball does it. The D1AA does it. The BCS could keep their TV contracts, they could keep their bowl games, and still make their money and finally give us, as fans, exactly what we want. A real finish! A real champion.

You can't tell me that 2 loss (1 to Oklahoma, 1 to Utah) TCU doesn't deserve a shot after beating undefeated Boise State. And what about the 1 loss USC Trojans? The 1 loss Texas Longhorns? I guess you can always say "If its not broke don't fix it." But it has been broke for a long time and all they pieces are there to fix it. So...FIX IT. Give us a college football playoff system. Lets let at least the top 8 teams battle it out.  If you cant figure simple championship solution from that scenario than you're crazy.
